My friend Lucas and I at one of our favorite bars, The Alley. Go Huskers! |
This morning was tough, too! I slept over at my sister Emily's house last night, but forgot to bring anything for breakfast. Oops! Luckily I did have a leftover Lara bar from the day before, but I just filled my water bottle and hit the road so I could get home and make myself a clean breakfast. Now, Emily eats plenty healthy, but since I'm trying to stay away from grains, I didn't want to risk anything especially after cheating the night before. When I got back to Omaha, I made another "leftovers scramble" like I posted yesterday! Yum yum!
Then it was time for business. I sat down and selected my meals for the week. This week I still have a lot of frozen food from last week I can use, so I didn't have as many meals to plan, but I chose a few clean recipes my mom sent me that she specifically picked out for being paleo-based as well. Thanks Mom! I went through the recipes and made my grocery list, and off to HyVee I went! I got back from HyVee about 4:00 and just now am sitting down for the first time (it's 7:30!) I am EXHAUSTED.

It just looks so pretty, right? |
So I'm not going to walk you through each and every step of my meal prep right now, because seriously I'm so tired. Plus I forgot to make cookies!
So I just wanted to post a few pictures, and share with you a link to Delilah's new blog, "My Clean(er) Recipes."

Nitrate-free, all natural, gluten-free bacon. In my happy place, the HyVee Health Market! Man, I should get HyVee to sponsor this blog, yo. |
Free-range, organic, all the good stuff. Happy hens make happy eggs. Or something. |
The way I explained this "diet" (don't like the word "diet" per say because it implies something temporary where what I'm doing is a permanent life change, with room for adaptations and adjustments along the road as I go) to a friend last night, is I have to look at this like I'm in AA, and Delilah is my Sponsor. It's that serious for me. Food addiction or overeating or however you want to view it is a real thing that people truly struggle with. So while I was out last night, did I want a Bud Light? Did I want to eat a handful of greasy potato chips with french onion dip at a tailgate? Did I want to stop at McDonald's this morning and get a McGriddle? You bet your ass I did. But it's the difference between what you WANT and what you CHOOSE. For years I have CHOSEN the wrong things simply because it's what I wanted. Now, my WANT to be healthy is so much stronger than my WANT for greasy fatty foods and beer after beer.
Right now? I WANT to pour a glass of wine and go take a nap. But I'm going to CHOOSE to make some clean cookies (Delilah's recipe on her blog!!) and wash all of the dishes from my first solo Meal Prep Sunday!
I'll leave you with a pretty picture of fruit. You're welcome.
